QWhere can I see Mt. Fuji?

A

You can see the mountain during the trip between Ubako and Owakudani stations, and between Owakudani and Souzan station.

QWhat should I wear when I go to Owakudani?

A

Strong winds make the days cold from early spring to June, and from autumn to the start of winter, so you should bring some light outer clothing to wear. In summer you should dress light with a T-shirt or the like. In winter the temperature can drop below freezing even during the day, so come dressed warm.

QI'm touring Hakone for the first time. What spots should I visit?

A

When you come to Owakudani, from the ropeway you can view the desolate landscape and volcanic smoke, and Mt. Fuji soaring in the distance. Owakudani is an international tourist destination with two stars in the Michelin Green Guide. The volcanic zone where you can feel the power of Mother Nature is the prime sightseeing spot in Hakone. When you come to Hakone, make sure you ride the ropeway for the best way to take it all in.
Click here for more about Owakudani.

QWhen's the best time to see the autumn leaves?

A

Around Owakudani Station, the highest point along the ropeway, the autumn leaves come out around late October and stick around along the line until mid-November. Between Owakudani and Togendai you can walk the Owakudani-Kojiri Nature Trail. (Make sure to check for any trail closures before you go.) There's also a nice spot for viewing the autumn leaves around Ubako.

QWhere can I buy Owakudani Black Eggs?

A

The Owakudani Kurotamago Kan, as well as Gokuraku Chaya, both located in Owakudani, have stores selling the eggs.

QWhen is the best time to see Mt. Fuji?

A

Since clouds cover the mountain during the day in summer, morning is the best time during this season. In winter, the lower temperatures mean you can often see the mountain all day long. The setting sun in winter makes Mt. Fuji glow a crimson hue when viewed from Owakudani. It is a magically beautiful sight.

QWhat kinds of flowers can I see?

A

There are several seasonal flowers you can see from the ropeway: Fuji cherry from April to May, Japanese dogwood and hydrangeas from June to July, and pampas grass from September to October. And of course there are the autumn leaves from late October to mid-November.
